Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
This Privacy Policy describes how SwellSnap (the “App”) handles information when you use it. The App is operated by the developer identified on the App Store (“we,” “us,” or “our”). For questions, contact us at support@swellsnap.app or through the App Store listing support channel.
2. Scope
This Policy applies to information processed through the App on your device and, where applicable, information you provide to us through App Store–related support. The App does not require you to create a separate SwellSnap account for the free tier. It does not govern third-party websites or services that we link to or that power map/weather data; those providers have their own policies.
3. Information the App may use or store
- On-device preferences and content: The App may store settings, boat profile information, waypoints, favorites, and similar data locally on your device using standard iOS storage (for example UserDefaults and files in the app sandbox).
- Location: If you grant permission, the App may access your device’s location to center maps, tailor regional settings, and improve relevance. You can change or revoke location access in iOS Settings. We do not sell your precise location.
- Subscriptions: Premium access is purchased through the App Store. Apple processes all payment information; we do not receive your payment card number. Apple may provide us limited subscription status or transaction identifiers needed to unlock Premium features on your device, as described in Apple’s developer documentation.
- Optional legacy sign-in: Older installs may have used Sign in with Apple for optional features. Sign-in is not required for free or Premium use today.
- Diagnostics: We do not intentionally collect behavioral analytics across other companies’ apps. Standard Apple crash logs may be available to us through App Store Connect in aggregated or diagnostic form as provided by Apple.
- Network requests: When you use features that fetch weather, satellite imagery, regulations text, or map data, your device connects to third-party servers. Those requests may include technical data such as IP address, timestamps, and request parameters as normally occurs on the internet.
4. How we use information
We use information to operate the App, remember your settings, provide features you request, maintain security, comply with law, and improve stability. We do not sell your personal information.
5. Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only as needed to: (a) process data through service providers who assist in operating the App under confidentiality obligations; (b) comply with law, regulation, legal process, or governmental requests; (c) protect the rights, property, or safety of users or others; or (d) in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
Map tiles, weather APIs, and government data sources are provided by third parties when you use those features; their servers receive requests from your device as described in their terms and privacy notices.
6. Retention
Data stored on your device remains until you delete the App or clear app data in iOS. Information we receive through Apple or support channels is retained only as long as needed for the purposes described above and as required by law.
7. Security
We use reasonable measures appropriate to the nature of the App. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; you use the App at your own risk.
8. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
9. Your choices & regional rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing of personal information. Because much information stays on your device, you can delete the App or adjust permissions in iOS Settings. For other requests, contact us at support@swellsnap.app. We will respond as required by applicable law.
10. International users
If you use the App outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where we or our service providers operate, which may have different data protection rules.
11. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. If we make material changes, we may require you to acknowledge the updated Policy in the App before continued use.
